Jahrhunderts ein Thema gewesen, h\u00e4tte Goethe vielleicht nicht \u00fcber Besen und Wassereimer geschrieben, sondern \u00fcber Plastikt\u00fcten und Plastikbecher \u2026<\/p>\n<p>Seit Kunststoff als Allzweckwunder die Welt eroberte und langlebige, leichte und hygienische Produkte lieferte, die zudem preiswert und oft grell bunt waren, ist viel geschehen. Wer h\u00e4tte sich damals M\u00fcllberge bis zum Horizont vorgestellt oder Fische, die verenden, nachdem sie sich in treibenden Plastikabf\u00e4llen verfangen haben?<\/p>\n<p>Seit den 1970er-Jahren soll Recycling das Problem l\u00f6sen, und neue Verpackungsvorschriften zielen derzeit auf h\u00f6here Recyclingquoten ab.<\/p>\n<p>Doch l\u00f6st das wirklich das Problem?<\/p>\n<p>Nat\u00fcrlich ist es besser, wenn Kunststoffartikel nach einem Schmelz- und Reinigungsprozess zu neuen Produkten \u2013 etwa zu Kunststofffolie \u2013 verarbeitet und so wiederverwendet werden. Doch was kommt danach?<\/p>\n<p>Selbst mehrfach recycelte Kunststoffverpackungen landen am Ende ihres Lebenszyklus auf einem der stetig wachsenden M\u00fcllberge oder im Meer. Wenn sie es \u00fcberhaupt so weit schaffen. Denn viel zu viel Kunststoff landet aus Unachtsamkeit oder Bequemlichkeit am Stra\u00dfenrand, im Wald oder auf Feldern, wo er im schlimmsten Fall Hunderte von Jahren \u00fcberdauern kann!<\/p>\n<p>Doch was w\u00e4re, wenn Verpackungen, die nicht korrekt entsorgt werden und unsachgem\u00e4\u00df in die Natur gelangen, einen Plan B mitbr\u00e4chten?<\/p>\n<p>Unbehandelte Naturfasern wie Papier oder Karton w\u00fcrden innerhalb relativ kurzer Zeit verrotten. In vielen F\u00e4llen bieten sie jedoch keinen ausreichenden Schutz f\u00fcr die verpackte Ware \u2013 weder vor Feuchtigkeit noch vor Mikroorganismen oder Schimmel. Werden biologisch abbaubare Produkte jedoch mit einer sch\u00fctzenden Kunststofffolie versehen, belasten sie die Umwelt erneut.<\/p>\n<p>Ein unl\u00f6sbares Dilemma?<\/p>\n<p>Verpackung neu denken hei\u00dft: Wir brauchen ein Verfahren, das biologisch abbaubarem Material neue, wasser- und schmutzabweisende Eigenschaften verleiht und die Verpackung dabei papierbasiert h\u00e4lt.<\/p>\n<p>That is the aim of the product innovation SiOPack<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>: the ultra-thin nanopool coating equips untreated paper or cardboard with a barrier that repels moisture and dirt.
