Current, product-specific information can be found on the respective product pages.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201eDe geesten die ik riep, raak ik nu niet meer kwijt.\u201c Als kunststof eind 18e eeuw al een thema was geweest, had Goethe misschien niet over bezems en emmers water geschreven, maar over plastic tasjes en plastic bekers \u2026<\/p>\n<p>Sinds kunststof als alleskunner de wereld veroverde en duurzame, lichte en hygi\u00ebnische producten opleverde die bovendien goedkoop en vaak schreeuwerig gekleurd waren, is er veel gebeurd. Wie had zich toen afvalbergen tot aan de horizon kunnen voorstellen, of vissen die omkomen nadat ze verstrikt zijn geraakt in ronddrijvend plastic afval?<\/p>\n<p>Sinds de jaren 1970 wordt van recycling verwacht dat het het probleem oplost, en nieuwe verpakkingsregelgeving is momenteel gericht op hogere recyclingpercentages.<\/p>\n<p>Maar lost dat het probleem echt op?<\/p>\n<p>Natuurlijk is het beter wanneer kunststof artikelen na een smelt- en reinigingsproces tot nieuwe producten worden verwerkt \u2013 bijvoorbeeld tot kunststoffolie \u2013 en zo worden hergebruikt. Maar wat komt daarna?<\/p>\n<p>Ook kunststof verpakkingen die meerdere keren zijn gerecycled, belanden aan het einde van hun levenscyclus op een van de steeds groeiende afvalbergen of in zee. Als ze al zo ver komen. Want veel te veel kunststof belandt door onachtzaamheid of gemakzucht langs de weg, in het bos of op akkers, waar het in het ergste geval honderden jaren kan blijven liggen!<\/p>\n<p>Maar wat als verpakkingen die niet correct worden afgevoerd en op ongepaste wijze in de natuur terechtkomen, een plan B hadden?<\/p>\n<p>Onbehandelde natuurlijke vezels zoals papier of karton zouden binnen relatief korte tijd vergaan. In veel gevallen bieden ze echter onvoldoende bescherming voor de verpakte goederen \u2013 noch tegen vocht, noch tegen micro-organismen of schimmel. Maar als biologisch afbreekbare producten worden voorzien van een beschermende kunststoffolie, belasten ze het milieu opnieuw.<\/p>\n<p>Een onoplosbaar dilemma?<\/p>\n<p>Verpakkingen opnieuw uitdenken betekent: we hebben een methode nodig die biologisch afbreekbaar materiaal nieuwe, water- en vuilafstotende eigenschappen geeft, terwijl de verpakking papiergebaseerd blijft.<\/p>\n<p>That is the aim of the product innovation SiOPack<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>: the ultra-thin nanopool coating equips untreated paper or cardboard with a barrier that repels moisture and dirt.
