Optimise energy generation with Nanopool coatings in solar parks

Nanopool & solar parks: rethinking efficiency

Solar parks are a key driver of the global energy transition. However, their performance is often reduced by soiling, weather conditions, and the effort required for cleaning. This is where Nanopool comes in: with the innovative NP® PV coating, we enhance light transmission, reduce cleaning needs, and sustainably increase energy yields – all without structural modifications.

Key benefits at a glance

🟢 Up to +20% higher yield thanks to increased light output
🟢 Less cleaning required due to dirt-repellent surface
🟢 Cooler modules – up to 2 °C lower temperature
🟢 No structural modifications necessary
🟢 One-time application – only approx. €0.005 per watt
🟢 Particularly effective in diffuse light (ideal for Central Europe)

What is the NP® PV coating?

The NP® PV coating is a nanotechnology-based surface treatment for photovoltaic modules. It reduces the adhesion of dust, dirt, algae, and other deposits, making cleaning significantly easier. At the same time, it improves the light transmission of PV modules, resulting in a measurable increase in performance.

Mode of action and benefits of NP® PV coating:

  • Reduced cleaning effort thanks to dirt-repellent properties
  • Higher energy yields through optimised light absorption
  • Lower consumption of water and cleaning agents
  • Protection against snow adhesion and weather-related effects
  • Extended lifespan of solar modules

Operate solar parks efficiently

A solar park is a large-scale photovoltaic installation designed for environmentally friendly electricity generation. To ensure consistently high yields over the long term, keeping the solar modules clean is essential. This is where Nanopool offers a smart and cost-effective solution:

With our coating technology, you can achieve:

  • Maximum energy output with minimal maintenance effort
  • Long-term reduction in operating costs through fewer cleaning cycles
  • Climate-friendly operation thanks to resource-efficient maintenance

Simplified cleaning – enhanced performance

Dirty modules reduce the performance of your system. In contrast, modules coated with Nanopool are self-cleaning and require significantly less maintenance. During rainfall, dust and dirt are simply washed away. Even stubborn residues can be removed with minimal effort – often, water alone is sufficient, with no need for cleaning agents.

Low-maintenance and durable:

  • pH-stable coating (2–12.5)
  • Cleaning possible with low water pressure
  • No mechanical damage caused by the coating

Sustainable operations with Nanopool

With the NP® PV coating, solar park operators benefit on multiple levels: less maintenance, higher energy yields, lower costs – and an active contribution to climate protection.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

The NP® PV matrix was developed for long-term use under real environmental conditions. In practice, the coating has demonstrated a durability of at least 5 years – and often significantly longer.
However, the exact lifespan depends on various factors, including:

  • Site conditions (e.g. desert region vs. temperate climate)
  • Cleaning frequency and methods
  • Mechanical stress from weather (hail, sandstorms, etc.)

Despite these variables, the protective layer remains chemically stable, UV-resistant and weather- resistant, ensuring years of virtually maintenance-free effectiveness.
For installations in Europe under average conditions, a service life of 5 to 10 years can be expected – with a single application.

Tip: The coating can be renewed or refreshed at any time without disassembly or technical intervention if required.

Yes, the NP® PV coating has been thoroughly tested and is safe for use on almost all common photovoltaic modules – regardless of manufacturer or surface materials.
Our coating is specifically designed to avoid any chemical reaction with the module surfaces and does not impair their functionality in any way.

Neither the glass, frame, encapsulation, nor anti-reflective coatings are affected or damaged. The product is UV- and weather-resistant, long-term stable, and suitable for a wide range of climate conditions – from dry regions to Central Europe with high humidity and changeable light conditions.
Thanks to these properties, the NP® PV coating is ideal for both new and existing installations – a safe, sustainable solution for enhancing the efficiency of your photovoltaic modules.

Applying the NP® PV coating is straightforward, time-efficient, and designed for use directly on installed photovoltaic modules – with no need for disassembling or special equipment. The process is simple and can be carried out by qualified professionals or trained technicians.

Typical application process:

  1. Preparation:
Ensure the module surface is dry, dust-free and free from heavy soiling before application.
  2. Application:
The NP® PV coating is applied evenly to the module surface using a spray method or a specialised applicator. No aggressive chemicals are needed – the active ingredients bond to the glass surface by themselves.
  3. Drying & curing:
After application, the coating needs a short drying period (typically 10–20 minutes at ambient temperature). The surface should not be touched or be subjected to stress during this time.
  4. Immediately effective:
After the drying period, the protective layer is fully active and the modules are dirt- and water-repellent and protected in a UV-stable way.

For best results, we recommend application by authorised partners or following a short training session provided by our team.

The NP® PV coating offers significant advantages during the winter months, ensuring continuous operation of photovoltaic systems. One of its key properties is its hydrophobic (water- and snow-repellent) effect, which helps to prevent snow, ice, and frost from adhering to the module surface.

In concrete terms, in winter, you benefit from:

  • Reduced snow adhesion:
Thanks to the smooth, dirt- and moisture-repellent surface, snow and frozen precipitation slide off the modules more easily – even with a slight inclination.
  • Earlier resumption of power generation:
While uncoated modules often remain covered in snow for hours or days and generate no electricity, coated modules become snow-free more quickly, enabling a faster return to full performance.
  • More consistent energy yield in variable weather:
In conditions with frequent thawing and freezing, module surfaces remain cleaner and more efficient. This is especially beneficial in Central Europe with its diffuse light and changeable weather.

Overall, the NP® PV coating not only enhances efficiency during the summer months, but also supports a continuous, low-maintenance operation in winter and helps to prevent weather-related energy losses.
