City of Heidelberg – Sustainable Stone Protection with Nanopool®

Long-term hygiene, material protection and energy efficiency in one solution:
To protect the newly installed sandstone seating at Neckarlauer against dirt, algae, bird droppings, chewing gum and graffiti, the City of Heidelberg treated the surfaces with Nanopool®’s eco-friendly NP® stone coating.

The invisible high-performance coating ensures that contamination and environmental residues are naturally washed away by rain. As a result, the popular riverside area remains clean for longer, while cleaning efforts, water consumption and energy costs are significantly reduced.

The NP® product used was tested by the Institute for Stone Conservation (Institut für Steinkonservierung e. V.). The results confirm that despite its high protective effect, the surface remains breathable and the material structure is not affected.

Nanopool’s Liquid Glass technology does exactly that: invisible, breathable protection that shields natural stone surfaces like granite, marble or sandstone from environmental damage.

Our Liquid Glass-based protection solution is ideal for:

It can be used both indoors and outdoors – e.g. on terraces, kitchen worktops, stairs or floors.

The coating is based on Liquid Glass – an ultra-thin layer of silicon dioxide, a main component of quartz. It bonds to the stone at a molecular level, forming an invisible, water- and dirt-repellent, yet breathable barrier. This protects the surface against moisture, oil, dirt and abrasion – without sealing or altering its appearance.

No. Our Liquid Glass stone protection is completely transparent. The surface remains as it was – naturally matte or glossy. There is no visible layer, no film, and no change in colour.

The protection is long-lasting and depends on level of use and the type of surface. In general, the effect lasts for several years. On high-traffic areas (e.g. commercial entrances or stairs), an occasional refresh may be beneficial.

Yes! Our Liquid Glass-based protection is designed to be easy to apply for private users – using a spray bottle or roller. Alternatively, it can be professionally applied by a specialist contractor
