New paths for fibre-based packaging solutions
Nanopool at the Pulp In Action bootcamp – innovation in collaboration with the cosmetics industry
In April 2025, an exclusive network of global cosmetics leaders, pioneering technology providers and committed organisations gathered for the 8th bootcamp of the Pulp In Action consortium – an international flagship initiative for collaborative material innovation and sustainable, fibre-based packaging solutions.
For Nanopool, participating in this consortium is more than just a sector event – it represents a genuine partnership in innovation. As the developer of the patented SiOPack® liquid glass technology, we are proud to be part of this high-level network, where forward-thinking ideas are not only exchanged but transformed into concrete product developments.
Innovation begins with dialogue
Direct exchange on-site – represented by our Managing Partner Sascha Schwindt – played a key role. In close dialogue with brand representatives, developers and material experts, we were able not only to showcase our technological capabilities but also to explore and define new application areas.
One current example: our latest development for transparent glassine paper makes it possible to eliminate plastic windows in cosmetic packaging – without sacrificing product visibility. A solution that not only opens new possibilities in the beauty sector, but is already seeing its first applications in the food industry – for example in bread bags with transparent zones that allow visibility, reduce theft risk and speed up the checkout process.
A strong alliance for sustainable solutions
The Pulp In Action consortium pursues a clear objective: to actively drive the transition to environmentally friendly, fibre-based packaging in the cosmetics industry – not at some point, but now.
The focus is on key functional challenges such as:
- Water repellency (deperling)
- Barriers against water vapour, liquids and oxygen
- Recyclability and compostability
The bootcamp brought together 12 global cosmetics brands with 16 technology-driven partner companies – in over 30 workshops, material tests and strategic discussions. This intensive, hands-on collaboration is the foundation for genuine innovation that significantly shortens the path from concept to market readiness.
Our contribution: functionality meets sustainability
With our SiOPack® technology, we provide functional barriers for fibre-based packaging – without compromising recyclability.
Our ultra-thin, silicon dioxide-based coatings are food-safe, biocompatible, and offer both water- and oil-repellent properties.
A key topic in discussions with potential partners was the added value of our solutions in terms of abrasion resistance and surface protection, particularly for moulded fibre packaging – an area where we see great potential for joint progress with industry partners.
Looking ahead
The consortium’s declared goal is to bring market-ready concepts and initial industrial applications to life by the end of 2025. Nanopool is fully committed to shaping this path – with high-tech made in Germany, deep expertise, and a strong will to take sustainable packaging solutions to the next level.
